My name is Gugha Priya. I am a Madrasi girl, raised in Madras for 25 years, and now live in Blaine, Minnesota, USA. By day, I am a full-time software engineer. By night and weekends, I spend time on my blogs along with all other things I love to do.

Who is Madrasi?

“Madrasi”, meaning “from Madras”. It is a term that identifies people from the City of Madras. Madras is a coastal city located on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal. It is the capital city of the Indian State “Tamil Nadu”.

Under the British Raj, Madras Presidency comprised parts of the Southern States of today’s Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala. Madras presidency represented South India and its affairs. Hence even today many thrust the identity “Madrasi” to people from the Southern States including those other than Tamil Nadu.

In 1996, they officially renamed “Madras” as “Chennai”. But to me, it is always Madras.

Is this blog about Madras and people from Madras?

No, this blog is not exclusively about Madras or people from Madras. I identify myself as a girl from Madras and relate very much to the title “Madrasi”. This blog will reflect the life journey, stories, and experiences of this Madrasi girl.

Why this blog?

To be frank, I wanted an online presence. I developed the habit of writing Journal at an early age (since I was 10), from my dad. I write everything from the day’s happenings to my musings to quotes & verses to any observations I had for the day.

I love to write and decided to use this platform to pen my thoughts.

As a child, I loved listening to stories, and as I grew up, I started observing the stories around me. I learned something from every person with whom my path crossed. Every such little moment has turned into beautiful memories. And these memories beat as my second heart.

My memories serve as a mirror that reflects my life, the stories I grew up with, the people I met, the food I love, the books I read, the inspirations, the learnings, the hurt, the fall and the rise. I love to express my thoughts, feelings, experience, and learnings through writings.

Now I will share these experiences and the memories from my life. Hope a few of these would touch your soul. Thank you for reading!

I pretty much enjoy every moment and everything that happens in my life. Be it happy or sad. I have a “No Regrets” policy in my life.

I do not overthink what is going to happen or coming my way. I just believe all that happens will bring the best and ends well, and I am not going to miss the excitement it brings in.

I love to travel, go on a long drive, listen to stories, read books, taste all kinds of food, listen to any genre of music, explore new places, new people, new culture, and anything and everything that keeps me occupied.

I am an Introvert. Do not get confused, I am not shy, not stuck up, not depressed, not sad, not antisocial. I’m just observing and I can’t stand small talk. But if you have a meaningful conversation, I will talk for hours.

I am either super quiet or the loudest most hype person, and it all depends on how comfortable I am with you.
